Experience the magic of winter in Luleå and northern Sweden. Here are my favourite tips for activities, attractions, and things to do on your own.

Explore the winter walkways on Ormberget
There is fresh snow in the forest, and a white fairytale landscape as I wander around the trails on a northern lights evening at Ormberget outside Luleå.

Northern lights hunting on the Luleå Ice track
I borrow a kick sled in Luleå’s southern harbor and quickly make my way out on the ice track where it’s dark enough to see the northern lights dancing over the city lights.

Snowmobile safari in the archipelago
With the sun on our faces, we quickly travel out into the frozen archipelago on snowmobiles. It is both fun and exciting. When we stop at an island for a meal, we are struck by the total silence and peacefulness.

Downhill skiing at Måttsund
We approach the ski slope at dusk for evening skiing in cozy lighting. The slope is located close to the center of Luleå and makes it easy for spontaneous visits when the conditions are right.

Snowshoe hiking at Bälingeberget
Hike out into untouched snow and enjoy the old forest and windswept pines. When you reach the height and the shingle fields, you have a beautiful view of Luleå’s winter landscape.

Dog sled tour in the forest and frozen sea
Get in the sled and enjoy nature during the winter and feel the joy of work when the dogs get to run. We travel over the ice in the archipelago and through forests with snow-laden branches.

Photography walk in Gammelstad Churchtown
During the winter, there is a beautiful peace and quiet in the UNESCO World Heritage Site Gammelstad Church Town. The beautiful little red church cottages, shops, restaurants and the medieval stone church make you feel and take part in the history.
